Care Quality Commission (CQC)

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of all the health and social care in England and their job is to make sure that care provided by hospitals, ambulances, care homes and services in people's own homes and elsewhere meet the national standards of quality and safety which include:-

  • treating people with dignity and respect.
  • making sure food and drink meets people’s needs.
  • making sure that that the environment is clean and safe.
  • managing and staffing services.
Their website is a good starting place if for example you are considering a care home either for yourself or a loved one or perhaps you are thinking about working at a particular home and want to check them out (always a good idea!).  You are able to search for individual homes and see how they have performed when last assessed by the CQC against the national standards.

There is a wealth of other information on the website so go check it out now at www.cqc.org.uk
